This is the existent bargain. I used my Instant Pot Electric Pressure cooker / slow cooker. I trimmed the beef, cutting along the musculus and removed any grizzle and whatever large hunks of fat. Seared the beefiness every bit directed in the Instant Pot using the saute characteristic. One time the beefiness was seared, I deglazed the pot with the vinegar and goop. Added the meat and seasoning and cooked under pressure for 30 minutes, and then switched to slow cook until you lot are ready to eat. The meat is very flavorful, not overly spicy. Perfect for tacos, taquitos or burritos. I fabricated this a day ahead of time, cooled and packed into mason jars. The next day I skimmed the fat and re-heated the meat. Fried taco shells and dinner was ready. Perfection!

I am rating this recipe because it deserves more reviews then people won't be scared to try information technology. Muy elementary y muy delicioso. My BF, el taco snob, absolutely loved this! I recommend making some spicy pickled ruddy onions to top these bad boys off. This recipe is definitely a keeper and will be my become-to from now on.
03/01/2017
I made this for homemade "street style" taco filling. My family and I loved this! The meat was super tender, juicy - melts in your oral cavity .. just awesome! I will definitely be making this one many times in the future! A week subsequently, I made this again, but used 3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts and chicken goop instead of the beef. The chicken tacos were merely equally awesome as the beef tacos of last week! This is a keeper! Thanks for sharing your recipe, Jack!

We take made this many times. Information technology is a staple in our dwelling house! What actually makes a difference and gets the meat so tender is to set it beforehand. Take out the chuck roast, put on a plate, pat dry out with a paper towel and season both sides generously with table salt. Go out information technology on the counter in room temperature for an 60 minutes (exercise this with steaks also, it makes meat so tender and juicy). I cut information technology in large chunks and sear it earlier putting it in the slowcooker. It is torture smelling it all day, but and so worth it!!

Great recipie.... Very flavorful and beefiness just fell apart!! My hubby loved it, but be careful using iv chipotle peppers even though very small ... They are very Strong and makes for a very spicy repast! We definitely will make once more but may try to utilise just 2-3 peppers instead of 4!!

1/xvi/eighteen - Very good recipe for Barbacoa! Excellent flavor! Fabricated as written and this will be our get to recipe for shredded beef for tacos, tostadas, taquitos, etc. I was a little concerned when I removed the beefiness and tasted the liquid alone. One time you put the shredded meat dorsum in the slow cooker, everything comes together. I did not observe a strong vinegar taste and it was not too spicy for us with the amount of chipotles called for in the recipe. If you lot are hesitant to endeavor this because of the peppers, reduce the amount by half should be ok, simply we felt it was on the balmy side every bit is. The just change I will make adjacent time is to add more than salt towards stop of cooking. Thanks for the recipe! UPDATE 6/27/eighteen - Made this in the Instant Pot with 2 lb chuck roast, fat trimmed (Meat/Stew option for 45 min allow natural release for about 15-20 min, and so quick release). And then delish and shredded nicely This time I used 5 + 1 actually small pepper in adobo sauce (6 total) and the meat had a slight boot to it, but not overpowering. Slight vinegar sense of taste did come through more, but non overwhelming at all. Might reduce the amount a picayune next fourth dimension. Excellent recipe!
08/21/2017
This was succulent! The odour overtook my husband, and he had a taste before information technology was done cooking. My only edit...It cooked in about six (half dozen) hours instead of the amount listed for the slow cooker on low. We also added bell peppers and onions for the last hour and it was perfect for u.s.a..
07/14/2016
Holy Toledo! This was one of the well-nigh astonishing dinners I've had in a long time!! Thank goodness I have some left for tomorrow!
05/05/2016
Amazing and like shooting fish in a barrel! I don't accept a slow cooker so covered it with foil in a drinking glass baking dish, oven at 250 for 6 hours. Took it out to shred, recover and melt for i more hr. Can't handle too much spice so I scraped out the seeds and it has a squeamish kick without making my mouth sad.
07/22/2016
Permit's offset by saying I don't care for the chipotle season much but my hubby and brother said hands downwards the best tacos they have always had! And not to brag but I make some burn pork tacos. My mom doesn't even swallow spicy stuff and she ate a ton! It'due south definitely got some spice to it! So it'due south a hit hither and volition brand it for many more dinners with friends!
07/24/2017
This was fantastic! I made a double batch of this for street tacos this weekend and my friends and family unit ate it upwards in no time. When it was done, I was worried that the beef was likewise spicy, simply one time y'all put information technology on a tortilla with a piddling cabbage, sour cream and pickled red onions, they were perfect. The only changes that I fabricated to this recipe were: 1. I added a chopped upwards bong pepper to the meat mixture in the crockpot to give it a trivial texture, and 2. I used a cast iron pan to braise the beefiness, so the amount of oil listed was actually not necessary. Other than that, I would say this is perfect. My friends and family raved that they were the best street tacos that they had ever had.
05/05/2016
Easy and fantastic. Used merely one chili since my kids don't similar things too spicy.
05/06/2016
I make this all the time. It is definitely my favorite meal. I utilise stale chipotle peppers instead of canned, but leave everything else the same. Perfect.
05/xi/2019
I doubled the recipe because I was making it for a crowd. It was extremely moist and just cruel apart (in a good style!) when shredding. Very flavorful!
ten/13/2016
Worst barbacoa I've ever had
03/16/2019
Super easy and the whole family unit loved it. Will definitely make information technology again.
03/06/2019
Holy tacos! Used a regular crockpot to make this recipe... piece of cake to toss together my only complaint is that it took also long to cook and I thought I was going to starve smelling it all 24-hour interval. Must go a faster crockpot! Meat was tender, juicy and had just plenty kick to information technology. Will exist making this 1 over again!
03/24/2019
To shred the beef easily, use beaters. (Aye, equally in regular erstwhile beaters that you utilise to brand cake mix.) Awesome taste!
05/14/2019
My family loved information technology! I fabricated it step by step no changes and it was perfect!
06/10/2019
WOW! This is adept! It smelled just similar Chipotle but in my opinion its wwwayyyy spicier than Chipotle! I will make information technology again for sure simply use less chipotles in adobo. I also fabricated cilantro lime rice.
03/30/2019
Fantabulous I will definitely make it again!
12/07/2018
Delicious!! A lilliputian spicy, merely nosotros love food with a little boot. Cutting back on the corporeality of peppers if you don't like as well much spice. We added it to chocolate-brown rice, pinto beans, fresh Monterey Jack cheese, and sliced avocado. Yum!
12/23/2017
It turned out great! A lot of times slow cooker recipes taste the same to me simply this i definitely did not. The whole family unit loved it.
05/02/2016
I made this in my electric pressure cooker. Browned the come across according to recipe, and cooked information technology on loftier pressure level for 30 minutes every bit advised by Baking Nana. Meat was dainty and tender with plenty of flavour but it was a petty too spicy for me; edible, merely had a kick!!! Adjacent time I'll add one/two the chipotle peppers.
12/31/2017
Awesome dish - merely if you don't care for spicy food or have kids that would adopt something more mild, I would cut the peppers in half.
04/23/2018
I made this recipe in my pressure cooker. It took about 35 minutes to cook the meat once I seared and browned it in a skillet. The meat was flavorful and tender. I over used the chipotle peppers on my first batch and thus my gustation buds were dancing. I made a 2nd batch co-ordinate to the recipe and the heat was drastically reduced. I like Tex-Mex dishes and this recipe certainly fit the neb for me.
07/03/2017
I only ate some chicken I made using this recipe similar another person commented . Tasted exactly like Chipotles Barbacoa. I was afraid the iv chipotles would exist a petty likewise spicy but it was just the right amount. You should really endeavor this recipe. You wont regret it.
12/10/2017
Made it exactly as published and my hubs and I loved information technology. Delish with a little pico de gallo on a tortilla. Volition definitely make again.
06/07/2017
But finished it. Tastes great. Maybe a bit heavy on the oregano, merely simply bought oregano today in the plastic packets in the Mexican seasoning department. Maybe considering its fresher the oregano was a bit stronger then the bottles of seasoning.
08/02/2017
This is an AMAZING recipe!!! I did cut the chipotle peppers on half because it would've been too spicy, but nosotros are looking forrad to leftovers this night! I made burrito bowls with this shredded beef and they were delicious--definitely making this again!!!
03/11/2018
I made this in my instant pot. I sectioned my roast into equal pieces, but did non sautƩ in oil. I just seasoned it, added the remaining ingredients and cooked on loftier pressure for fifty minutes, with a natural release. Perfect for tacos, quesadillas, nachos, burritos, enchiladas, tortes, etc.,
08/12/2016
It was so delicious! I served it on tostadas with lettuce & shredded cheese.
09/twenty/2017

03/24/2020
I loved this recipe... the only changes I fabricated was I added 1 cup of beef stock and 1 loving cup of water and 2 cinnamon sticks instead of cloves ... I simply used 2 chipotle pepper.. non too hot just correct... I besides cooked information technology in a dutch oven on 275 for iii hrs... delicious.... melts in ur mouth.... oh and for my topping I made pico ... I volition be making this again.....
12/08/2016
Fabricated as per directions except used a dutch oven. @ 285. Meat was falling apart in 3 hours. We fabricated tacos out of information technology, and my Mexican wife absolutely loved them. That speaks volumes. The only problem I establish was that information technology was a bit greasier than it should have. Solution to that is to trim fatty before searing. That is the reason for the missing star. muy bueno
02/11/2018
This was okay. The meat was tender, but the vinegar taste was overpowering. If I make information technology again, I would cutting the corporeality of vinegar in one-half.
01/26/2019
Served this for dinner when having the family over. All our kids (adults) and my husband raved about it. That's a huge compliment. I made information technology exactly to the recipe with no changes. Will definitely make information technology again.
05/01/2017
Smelled great while cooking, but was underwhelmed when I ate it. Not bad merely nothing I would crave. If you employ enough condiments, so the meat becomes less important.
05/eighteen/2020
I was scared to attempt this recipe at first considering I had never made barbacoa before, but I am and then glad I decided to requite information technology a shot. It is my go-to now, whenever I determine to make homemade chimichangas for dinner. If yous're sensitive to spice, I would recommend cut dorsum on the chilies. If you lot like your food to have some heat, I would recommend adding more. Try it!!!
08/27/2019
made it as is and my hubby, family and guests loved it. Volition brand information technology once more.
01/14/2018
This got an immediate "make this once more" from my family. I used two 1.five lb chuck roasts and cooked them on depression for 7 hours. I did not cutting upwardly the adobe peppers and simply pulled them out before I shredded the beef. I served it with sauteed peppers and onions.
03/16/2020
My chuck roast was merely one.5 lbs merely I kept the balance of the ingredients the same. Husband thought it was only and then-and then but I thought it was excellent. Thanks for the recipe.
02/06/2017

07/03/2019

05/07/2016
Made this for cinco de mayo, and will def make again.Subsequently checking in about 6hrs or so,all I could taste was the cumin, but some salt fixed it to perfection. I always go like shooting fish in a barrel on salt when cooking something for long periods,so I gauge I went a piddling too easy!!
ten/22/2016
Cut dorsum on the garlic due to personal preference and it was still succulent.
05/03/2020

08/28/2016
looove this recipe!! so easy and super delish!
08/30/2020
Delish!!! Information technology was spicier than Chipotle. You lot tin vary the kick past counting the peppers in the sauce. If y'all want a more mild kick, use 1-2 chipotle peppers instead of 3-4.

12/20/2020
Fabricated this for the starting time time, turned out fantastic. Meat literally fell apart information technology was so tender. Volition definitely make this again.
05/22/2022
Authentic barbacoa is caprine animal meat never beefiness!
03/19/2018
Ingredients for this recipe are a cracking get-go! I suggest adjusting ingredients to your liking. I didn't use cloves and cut the Chipotle peppers by half. Also used 1 tbsp powdered Boullion to the one/2 cup water and had a richer flavor. I'll stick with this recipe.
x/28/2019
I dear spicy, so I added a whole tin of Chipotle peppers (6) to about 2 lbs of beefiness. It was amazing! I'd like to notice a recipe to have some of the Chipotle peppers as a sauce to put on the meat besides.
06/21/2020
This was fabulous! I added near 1/3 of a chopped yellow onion and some actress pepper and smoked paprika to enhance the flavor!!!
08/20/2018
What a hit. The meat just melted and was a breeze to shred. The flavor was perfect merely I simply used 3 chipotle peppers rather than four. I too made a delicious side dressing with mayo, sour cream, lemon juice and two chipotle peppers which a great compliment to the beefiness.
05/24/2017
Amazingly delicious!! I have fabricated this many times. The only modify I brand is adding more chipotle peppers in adobo sauce considering nosotros similar the spiciness!! Contrary to almost Minnesotan preferences! Lol
02/03/2017
This was first-class! I cooked it in a pot over the stove top and used flank steak. It was incredibly spicy and then perchance next time I will take it easy on the chipotle with abodo sauce!!!! This will definitely be a favorite in our house!!!!!

02/04/2019
Added additional peppers in adobo sauce Nosotros loved it , definitely will make this once again
05/twenty/2017
I tried the recipe and it turned out bad. It was pretty mushy and flavourless. This is going to be the concluding time I effort a dull cooker recipe with annihilation acidic considering it just ends up dissolving and ruining the meat. I think I volition relieve information technology by pouring out the broth and add barbecue sauce and make sandwiches out of information technology. Ugh, just terrible.
02/18/2017
I made recipe exactly as written. It was delicious! Even better as leftovers!
06/09/2018
I followed the recipie as is. I have to admit I was skeptical as I as well feel all crockpot recipes taste the same but not this one! It is very flavorful. I used my dual crockpot cafe server. On one side I put one-half with two chipotle peppers. The other side was for the kids, no peppers. The spicy side was very spicy! In the future to adjust to our personal preference i will apply half the cumin and maybe less vinegar. Great recipe overall.
10/21/2019
And so good! If you lot similar spicy this is a skillful one for yous & your family! Il this one is always a hit!
07/09/2020
Yes Sir or Ma'am!!! This turned out absolutely delicious!!! I put the beef on fresh corn tortillas that were dipped in the au jus, then griddled, flipped and topped with cheese!!! Finished them off by stuffing them with this astonishing beef, folded and crispied up! Topped them off with fresh onion, cilantro, and fresh squeezed lime!!! The family was in heaven!! Thank you and then much for sharing!!!
03/15/2020
So good! Tender and flavorful! I used deer shoulder roast. I added an extra chipotle and didn't measure my lime juice (I used 3). Perfectly spicy for our taste and just a tad too much lime, next time I'll use two limes. I cooked it overnight for 8 hours on low then it was ready to pack for lunch the adjacent day. The meat shredded so easily, was juicy, and full of season. My husband loved information technology besides!
10/24/2021

02/02/2021

12/06/2016
Outstanding!! Anybody loves this recipe! I used the leftovers in the morning time to make some Barbacoa and spud/egg breakfast burritos! I made a lot extra so I could freeze and enjoy another time. Truly accurate flavors.
03/08/2020
I've made this recipe a few times and this time used the given amount of lime juice. I really idea the beef flavor concluded upwards a footling on the sour side, unfortunately, and my kids complained they didn't care for the sense of taste. My only change was the peppers - we tin't do spicy, so we used canned diced dark-green chilies. The meat is tender by the end - great for burritos. Lots of liquid left over. I might add less next time.
05/18/2020
The meat is super tender, very flavorful and everybody finished it off! Used my Instant Pot with the meat/stew setting and information technology cooked for 35 mins. Next fourth dimension I am doubling the recipe and then nosotros tin can take leftovers. We ate them with pan fried corn tortillas and topped with cilantro, avocado and fresh salsa. This will be included in our repast rotation from at present on. It was so so good!!
06/02/2018
Outstanding! It had great flavor and oestrus. Made exactly every bit written in our ho-hum cooker. Will definitely brand this once again.
05/04/2018
Loved this recipe! I used ii i/2 chipotle peppers and it was perfectly spiced. Will make again! Great every bit leftover meat also.
08/18/2019
I actually used leftover beef from several sources and it but took ii hours at 250f convention. I used light-green chilies and some jalapeƱo s instead of chipotle pepper. Fabled flavor. Going into my superlative 5 Mexican recipes.. thanks so much for sharing
03/02/2020
Turned out better than could have imagined! Couldn't find Chipotle Peppers in Adobo in time only used Chipotle powder in place. Likewise added a healthy dash of Cayenne pepper for a tinge of oestrus.
08/27/2019
Family loved this version of roast beef. Take it piece of cake with the adobe sauce, cause that stuff is hot!!! Served with chopped tomatoe and onion, with a splash of lemon, flour tortill'as and refried beans. Very good.
10/05/2017
This was delish! I only used ii adobe peppers and I idea that it was perfectly spicy. Nonetheless, Hubby would have preferred some additional heat. Cheers for a great recipe!
05/24/2020
I wanted to make beef barbacoa for first time so I read a agglomeration of recipes and decided on this 1 because of reviews and uncomplicated, straightforward recipe. Sooooo succulent, doubled the recipe and my ii kids and I had it for lunch every mean solar day til information technology was gone!! Every seize with teeth was so tasty and tender!! Like others I made it again and used chicken and loved information technology near as much!! Can't await to make it again!!
09/24/2017
Pretty skillful, but not over the top. I'm not sure what I would do to get it upward to the 5th star. I'm going to utilise the leftovers for a beef tortilla soup.
10/02/2018
My husband and I loved this! it was a bit spicy for the kids, but if it'due south mixed with some beans, cheese, lettuce, and such, it'south much milder and family friendly.
04/13/2019
It was simply okay; non a lot of season...
02/02/2018
The best tacos e'er. You need to brand them
03/02/2017
Non the best I've ever had but nevertheless pretty good.
01/22/2017
Made this for a group neighborhood assemble. Both the kids and adults loved this. The crock pot was scraped clean. I'thou making it again. This fourth dimension without four chipotles chopped in. I think information technology made it spicier. In 60 minutes 4 of existence in the crock pot I had a taste and feared it was too hot. In that final hr of cooking I removed the marinade and added the rest of the broth instead.
05/23/2017
I would use less cumin. Skip the vinegar all together. It was ok
