I made this recipe only changed it a trivial. I only used 1 i/2 tbsp. liquid fume, and I forgot the ketchup on accident. I'thou glad I did, considering the jerky turned out AWESOME! Just similar store bought. Oh, and I sliced my meat a trivial thicker than what the recipe chosen for too.
02/26/2002
My hubby is a busy man during deer season... and therefore I am too. By the end of the season I find myself throwing out meat to make room for more, so I thought what a way to apply it all upwards. The recipe was great, just make sure y'all dont dehydrate while you are sleeping first batch came out alittle dry. Recipe also works great with cuts of beef.
12/12/2003
this is the best recipe for deer meat. i accept used is for ten years now. i exercise not liquid fume. i do not put information technology in. it'south improve this way.
11/xiii/2006
Full of flavor simply not quite enough spice for us...we added some crimson pepper flakes to the marinade to give it that the added boot it needed.
11/xix/2005
Husband the hunter extraordinaire loves venison jerky and also loves black pepper, so he adds more. We have a dehydrator with a ton of trays and there are times that I feel like a meat processing constitute. I tip, nosotros quadruple (or more than) the recipe and use the ii.5 gallon ziploc bag to marinate. I tin't speak to how the oven would work.
10/18/2011
I've been making hasty for years and this is one of my favorites. It likewise works well hanging the strips with tooth picks in the oven. Put i rack on lowest level and cover with foil. Put another rack on top shelf - weave the toothpick at ane cease of strip and hand on rack! Yous tin can fit a lot more than meat in your oven this way and it gets air. Thank you for the recipe
01/07/2007
Excellent and simple! Modifications: I was out of onion table salt so I used minced onion instead and skipped the additional salt since there is so much in the sauce anyway. Also, used a dehydrator rather than the oven. Very, very good flavor. Meliorate than any I've purchased anywhere. My son is THRILLED with how we jerkied his commencement deer! Cheers!
04/18/2006
I have never made hasty before and this came out perfect. It was gone within 24hrs... I'll have to make more next fourth dimension! I did let information technology marinate a *long* time (3days....)
12/16/2006
Fabulous! My son loves beef jerky. He also loves venison. Put the two together and this is his favorie. So much cheaper than ownership it also. He actually makes this himself. We unremarkably have a lot of venison, so he makes it quite ofttimes, or oftentimes he doubles or even triples this recipe. He can put it away and quickly. Cheers for this recipe that nosotros use and will use over and over.
11/eighteen/2006
this recipe is so awesome it taste but like the jerky my Mom used to make years ago. Brings back warm memories.
12/nineteen/2009
I followed the recipe exactly. I put everything in a large tupperware bowl. I had all of the ingredients at domicile but the liquid fume, what made information technology really nice, nothing too fancy. The smell of the marinade, fabricated my mouth h2o. The everyman setting on my oven in @170, so I watched it closely and it turned out being the best hasty I've ever fabricated. The "gamey" gustatory modality was GONE.
01/15/2008
My father and I are deer hunters and nosotros unremarkably have a lot of meat in the freezer later on every season. The past couple of years I have asked my best friend, and best deer hunter I know, for different recipes to use for jerky that his family of deer slayers and game cooks have gathered and used over the years. This year I strayed away and used this recipe. This recipe was MUCH better than any habitation remedy I take ever used. I gained then much confidence in this recipe that I had a taste exam for my best friend'due south entire family unit. They all agreed that THIS recipe was THE All-time. The only changes I made were to add an additional ½ corporeality of black pepper needed and switched the worcestershire sauce and liquid fume amounts needed for a little more flavour and boot. Awesome recipe.
11/21/2012
I followed the recipe very specifically downwards to detail. And the jerky tasted very gamey. My recommendation is to do what everybody else is doing. And add brown sugar and a lot more pepper.
02/x/2011
This is absolutely the best deer jerky ever! I have experimented with it a little..as I usually practice a double batch, I have sometimes not doubled the ketchup but instead added the actress Tbsp using BBQ sauce instead. Too I have tried different varieties liquid fume, mesquite and hickory, nosotros similar the hickory the all-time. As well I slice the meat while partially frozen, makes it much easier to piece, and I do it in a dehydrator.
01/14/2012
Made this the other day...taste just like Wild Bills beef jerky. I used the oven method, my oven will only go down to 170 so I hung all my pieces from toothpicks on the top rack (hurting in the butt plus knees and back were on fire..lol)covered bottom rack with foil then left the oven door cracked open a few inches with a fiddling fan helping to circulate the air. Started information technology at 10 pm and it was perfect at half dozen am. All-time recipe e'er....all the same next time I'll add together more black pepper. Cheers!
09/26/2013
I take it in the oven right now and it smells delicious!. I used kabob sticks to skewer the meat and hang between the oven rack. Worked like a amuse!
06/08/2009
Peachy recipe! I make it every calendar week.
04/16/2010
I have had venison hasty before just never made it. My neighbor gave my family some venison equally well as antelope. I used this recipe for both and the family LOVED it! Information technology was gone within 24 hours!!! I currently have another batch in the refrigerator now! I will brand this over again and again!!!!
09/14/2012
I have fabricated this 8 times, each fourth dimension to the recipe beside tripling information technology. I accept never had anyone non like this jerky. An electric meat slicer makes quick work of the slicing and if you plan on making a lot of jerky, I recommend having 1 to relieve time as that is the most physically fourth dimension consuming function of hasty making.
eleven/23/2008
Finally a excelent recipe with out MSG.Fabricated only like the recipe reads.A=
08/06/2008
Likewise heavy on the smokey season for me personally, and lacking in spice. Hands fixed past tweaking the recipe though. My oven just goes down to 170 degrees and so my cook time was shortened by almost an hour.
09/02/2004
This is an oustanding jerky recipe. You tin can tweak it to encounter your sense of taste, add some chiles to it to spice it upward. Information technology should piece of work well with all meats, I used information technology on duck (mallards and bluebills)
11/eleven/2009
Take made this nearly four times at present. Everybody loves, loves, loves it. Hubby took information technology to work and they all wanted to put in "orders" for more. Perfect style to use up the leftover deer roasts before hunting flavour starts again and freezer is refilled. Make a double recipe and just fills our dehydrator.
05/17/2008
Made your recipe today. It turned out fantabulous! The only modify I fabricated was to add together 2 tablespoons of Frank'due south Hot Sauce which made information technology a petty spicy. Will be using this every bit my new jerky recipe. Thanks!
11/10/2010
i love jerky and this was the best jerky that i accept ever had.
ten/13/2008
This was very good, although nosotros did add together most 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and were glad we did. We will also probably double the blackness pepper side by side time, just that's just a personal preference for peppery jerky. Used a nutrient dehydrator and it was fantastic, going fast :)
xi/29/2010
My husband and me really enjoyed this deer jerky. I did call back information technology was just a tad bit too salty. It was very tasty though. Thanks for the recipe. I will be making this again.
ten/27/2011
My married man is usually the jerky chef in our house. But with this recipe I totally showed him upwardly. Everyone who tried it loved it. Thank you for posting this recipe.
12/31/2012
Did this recipe with some venison roasts and elk steaks sliced a petty over 1/viii in. thin. Followed the recipe exactly except I added a bit of cayanne pepper to give information technology a kick. 145°F for nine hours in a dehydrator produced fine jerky! Came out great!
02/12/2008
This was the best! I marinated for an boosted twenty-four hours (or two) and added red pepper flakes, my friends couldn't get enough! I sent it to schoolhouse with my son as a snack and his teachers are requesting more than. Thanks for sharing!
07/14/2005
Not a bad recipe, I used Cajun worcestershire that I bought in the French Quarter when I visited New Orleans and added some cayenne and red pepper flakes to make information technology spicier. My husband, who I made it for, says it's pretty good, simply thinks I can detect a better recipe, and then I'll keep looking. Just this was easy to put together and I'd recommend it to others. As a sidenote, my oven's everyman temperature is 170 and this recipe calls for 160--information technology cooked for three hours at 170 and had a great chewy texture--something to endeavour for those who don't want to wait six hours for the jerky.
02/01/2005
I never fabricated Deer Jerky before and this recipe looked so easy....and information technology was! Information technology was expert as well...my family loved it! Thanks!
11/17/2017
I added a Tbsp of dark-brown sugar. Used onion powder instead of onion salt. Next time I volition add some hot sauce like others take suggested. This is great and easy just every bit written.
12/16/2005
My husband goes hunting every year and he goes with a grouping. They don't eat venison and then we usually get all the meat. So instead of buying a store bought seasoning decided to try this and we LOVE IT TRULY. Unproblematic and smashing. Don't even know its venison.
01/25/2009
This is the best! Way better than annihilation you could buy in a package. I divided the recipe and put red pepper flake in half. Both tasted awesome, but I am a fan of a little spice.
12/21/2010
very prissy. i added 1/2 teasoon red pepper flakes for some heat and shortened the cook time by an hour at a temp of 160 in a dehydrator
07/24/2004
Succulent. Since no one in my family unit but me likes venison this was a practiced way for them to consume it. They liked it too. I will definately make this many times.
12/05/2011
To make this a five star recipe you demand one secret ingredient. My begetter-in-law and I have tweeked this very recipe for years and you can play with it alot. Still, i thing is a teaspoon or ii of Dave's Insanity Sauce. Be careful with this stuff, it volition set your world a blaze@!
xi/21/2007
I tried this recipe this final calendar week with information technology being deer flavour and all... and information technology turned out actually well! Instead of cooking it in the oven though I used a dehydrator but the marinade was keen. I fabricated one other change, i added just a minor handfull of dark-brown sugar to the maridnade before I put the meat in and like I said it turned out bully! Everyone loved it!
12/06/2012
I followed the recipe every bit directed and it was perfect. I don't have a dehydrator, then I used the oven. My oven pick goes from 'warm' to 200 and I had to gauge 160 degrees. I'm going to assume my temp was too high and glad I checked it when I did (simply after iv hours)...just a footling as well done and crispy instead of chewy. But awesome flavour - yum!!
01/01/2011
Best jerky I've ever had. I've used both deer and beefiness to make this and always have people asking for recipe.
01/28/2005
I made this and it was wonderful, my daughter who refuses to consume deer meat loved it.
12/27/2002
My hubby is rating this 1 since he uses information technology. It is wonderful, gave hasty a great season.
01/14/2016
I accidentally increased the onion, garlic and pepper to 1/2 tsp. each during mixing. Only information technology tasted great. Hubby loved it. A notation for those using their oven: use an oven thermometer. I had never tested my oven before and discovered information technology runs higher than what I programed it to. My lowest setting is 170, only my thermometer indicated 180, so I needed to slightly crevice my oven open to lower it to 160-170. Likewise, I noticed a few comments on 'gamey' taste. Mostly a gamey taste is due to non aging the Deer long enough before butchering. Another assist for this is to marinate the jerky for 3 days before drying. Makes a huge divergence.
01/17/2012
Great Recipe! Have made about x batches with this recipe and anybody has loved it!
01/07/2012
Succulent and the best hasty I've made still! I did substitute brown sugar for the ketchup, just this stuff is addictive. If your new to jerky, get a dehydrator and a food sealer. Jerky is supposed to go along up to a couple years or improve in the freezer though it never seems to hang around here long enough to observe out.
01/07/2009
This was very good. I didn't take onion salt, so I used near one-half a regular onion - small dice. Added kosher table salt since meat loves salt. Used stainless steel cooling racks and placed them on old cookie sheets to minimize the mess in the oven. Getting ready to make a second batch!
10/23/2008
Great recipe, took some to work and all the guys loved it.
06/23/2019
I also added 4T Balsamic Vinegar and for a piddling kicking, 2T hot sauce...was a success and was told it was better than my electric current recipe. Just found a new recipe!
01/23/2011
i made this today it was the commencement time i have made jerky information technology turned out great deceit keep my kids out of it its not going to last long i am going to make this over and over thank you for the recipe
12/eleven/2008
Recipe every bit is tasted fantastic! My 2d batch I added ane/2 Tb cherry pepper flake and 1/ii tsp cocoa-chili powder...information technology has been a HUGE striking!
02/17/2015
Fantastic! Volition definitely be making this again. Nosotros used beef and deer. We also tried in the oven and in the dehydrator, both means turned out fantastic.
03/15/2013
Thank yous Mike Shelton this is a neat mode to savor venison. I have fabricated information technology many times . T he merely change I made was to use Famous Dave's devils spit xxx hot BBQ sauce in place of ketchup. Information technology gave information technology just enough zing ! The original recipe is great the style it is merely if y'all like a modest amount of hot flavor endeavor information technology with some hot BBQ sauce.
02/11/2014
I made this recipe simply added 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of honey, i tablespoon of brown sugar and two tablespoons of Kraft Dearest Bar-B-Que Sauce. My oven would not prepare below 170 degrees, so I prepare it on 170 degrees and slowly cooked it for 3-1/2 hours. The deer jerky has a expert texture to it and is not tough at all. The side by side time I go far I think I'll add some actress spices to give it a boot.
11/13/2007
I actually haven't tried this detail recipe only it looks very similar to one that my dad used a lot. Just a annotation that I thought might be helpful is that instead of laying the strips straight on the racks we would put a toothpick through one cease of the strips and hang them vertically from the rack. I might add that even if y'all advisedly line the oven with aluminum foil you will nevertheless have a messy oven to make clean, I gauge that is why my mom hates deer season. lol
11/25/2008
This is a keen recipe. The merely thing I did diffent was added some brown sugar and more than pepper. And according to my husband information technology was great, but he would have liked it even more peppery. My 1st batch was gone in 8 hours!
01/01/2005
beloved it
09/20/2009
This jerky was very flavorful-we used a food dehydrator and information technology only took about 18 hours to fully dehydrate. We sliced the venison pretty thin and it was slightly crunchy and chewy all at once. Cheers!
01/29/2014
Turned out perfect, children, wife, in laws loved it an asking for more than. I will add a footling more than black pepper only for me.
eleven/22/2004
Absolutely Awesome! Our friends at church at present send me home with all hindquarters to hasty and split with their families!! Dandy recipe!
10/fourteen/2002
Gave jerky good season. A picayune potent.
01/20/2019
Starting time deer, first jerky attempt. AWESOME! I fabricated nigh a quarter of it with some chilli powder, and that disappeared quick. Can't await until next season!
10/21/2013
My son shot his very 1st deer/cadet this year, and nosotros love jerky so I used this recipe, and it turned out amazing!!! So my husband said it needed more than rut, so in the second batch I made, I forgot the ketchup on accident, but added a one/2 tsp of red pepper flakes and only did 1 1/2 tbsp of liquid smoke, and cutting the meat a little bit thicker and well we ate the whole batch in a matter of minutes!!!!
03/twenty/2009
My Jerky turned out perfect in my dehydrator. Next fourth dimension I make this I volition leave out the liquid fume.
11/16/2015
I used only a little more blackness pepper and fume flavor. It is a great recipe that will please anyone.
11/25/2013
i merely started using this recipe.it is very adept but the only thing i did different was added chocolate-brown sugar. what a divergence. endeavour information technology
12/24/2019
This recipe tastes just like store bought jerky. I don't add together liquid smoke. Also, I use Dale's steak sauce instead of Worcestershire. If yous similar sweet and sour, utilize honey teriyaki marinade instead of Worcestershire and soy sauce. Great recipe!!!
01/xiii/2020
I stale it in the smoker. Turned out smashing! I did add some brown carbohydrate and some meat cure. It's my new go to recipe
06/02/2017
Very practiced. In the future I will omit the 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Information technology's probably salty plenty with the soy and Worcestershire sauce. I as well fabricated one alteration and added nearly three/4 tablespoon of sesame oil.
01/31/2017
It's a great mix of seasonings and our jerky turned out crawly!! We plan to add a little kick of spice next fourth dimension and go out out the extra common salt!
12/04/2019
I doubled the pepper. It was fantabulous!
02/07/2008
Hubby gobbled this up! I just added spices until I felt like information technology was right though.
12/08/2013
fantabulous recipe, same one i used to apply when i was a kid that i found in an old cookbook. one suggestion that i might add was to change out the soy sauce with teriyaki sauce, tried it in one case because we were out of soy, little unlike gustatory modality but i like it mayhap u will too. i unremarkably make both now only to give me 2 different kinds of jerky.
01/06/2020
Proficient recipe. I made in gas stove, information technology could only go downward to 170, and was gear up at v hrs
09/06/2021
I made this recipe with my 9 year old girl. I needed something easy to read and easy to mix so she could larn and this was perfect. Reminded me of when I fabricated information technology as a young girl myself. The dried deer meat will be used to make what my people call pimikahn aka pemmican. Thanks for the recipe!
11/17/2021
Great recipe, the only thing that i practice different is dry out the meat at 200 degrees F, it makes sure that the meat reaches a safe temperature but information technology also shortens the time to dry from nearly 6 hours down to about ii hours.
xi/17/2021
This was astonishing!! I left out the ketchup and it was perfect! This is my Get-TO for sure!
05/18/2020
when it came time to hang the venison hasty off of the rack in the oven I found that it was much easier to utilise bamboo skewers rather than toothpicks. Also I used fresh garlic equally well as garlic powder and onion powder. I used the same marinade for wild turkey breast and it worked and tasted actually good.
xi/01/2015
Didn't use the liquid smoke. Smoked it over sample/maple wood in my smoker. Taste slap-up.
02/26/2017
I tried this recipe with venison and a make new dehydrator. It turned out very well. Since then I've tried 3 other recipes and they just weren't as good. This recipe is simple and makes a great flavored final production. My only change is to utilize low sodium soy sauce. I'grand marinating another batch every bit I write this.
01/eighteen/2020
Its been years since I had a good jerkey. This recipe is perfect. I did however leave the door of the oven cracked open up while on heat. Actually forgot and left it in there ix hrs only it came out flavorful. I did also personally exit my deer meat a couple days in water to drain the blood, and then pre soaked information technology in the marinade for probably another three days. The gameyness is mostly gone so.. thank you for the hasty
01/07/2020
Added a tablespoon of brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper, omitted table salt, and substituted onion pulverisation for onion salt. I dehydrated information technology in the oven at 160 for 6 hours, probably could have stopped at five hours. Defiantly a keeper!
10/22/2015
Peachy flavour, didn't have enough liquid smoke to add all it called for only it was still good. seven hrs might have been a little too long. I'1000 going to try 6hrs next time.
02/01/2017
My wife and I fabricated this recipe , well this will be the 3rd time and its phenomenal I add red pepper flakes to the recipe and I don't use a dehydrator we employ our oven on 160 degtrees Fahrenheit for about six hours with swell results
01/09/2011
I tried this recipe and it worked out nicley. Instead of adding 1/2 teaspoon of common salt, I added cayenne pepper instead to give a lil' kick.
01/07/2018
Awesome recipe. I mixed in a little bit of ground breakfast sausage and man is it peachy. had some ground meat left over and fried it and put over eggs. Crawly
01/31/2020
Love it making 50lb batch at a time very good
11/18/2017
Went 2/three soy n i/3 worcestershire, jerky cure, no salt second batch. Residual of ingredients the same. Marinated 24 hrs. Used dehydrator. All-time jerky ever!
10/26/2018
I loved it then did all of my family and friends. I just added some Cheyenne pepper to make a little fleck more spicy.
xi/19/2019
I dear this recipe. It's easy, cheap and I usually have the ingredients on hand. It's not over powering as you tin can still taste that it is deer. I have been making it for a few years now and have found it to be a good base to add different flavors to equally well. My whole family unit loves it.
04/17/2013
information technology was really good first fourth dimension trying it
x/03/2019
I made deer Jerky with this exact recipe. It turned out amazingly delicious! I will be definitely making it once again! The deer Hasty was full of flavor. Admittedly great recipe.
01/24/2018
This was awesome definately making it over again. Wondering if I can use this recipe to make jerky out of ground venison?
06/11/2004
This resipie is great
01/09/2016
I didn't try any changes - I liked the consistency and flavor - I was surprised how dark it came out, but this was my first time making venison hasty. I dried information technology over 7 hours in a Cabela'due south Harvester Pro electric dehydrator.
02/27/2011
Excellent recipe! I cut my meat much thicker than recommended here (~ane/4 - 3/8" thick) and used a food dehydrator. I likewise like my jerky a fleck spicy, so I added iv Tbsp Tobasco and one Tbsp red pepper flakes to the marinade. Turned out perfect!
10/12/2012
Wonderful unproblematic recipe to follow!
02/27/2007
Not to bad for a throw together quick fix.
06/01/2016
dear love love it!!! used it in my dehydrator and came out fantastic. i fabricated a lb yesterday already have ti brand more
